Privacy Policy
Wordle Analytics ("WA," "we," "us") is a free, independently-run Wordle statistics tracker. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what control you have over it.
Information you provide directly
When you create an account, we collect your screen name, email address, and password (stored as a one-way cryptographic hash — we never store or can see your actual password). Optionally, you may provide your first and last name, phone number, age, gender, city, state/region, and country.
When you upload a Wordle screenshot, our system reads the puzzle result from the image (via the process described below) and stores the extracted data — your score, guesses, and the puzzle date. The image file itself is not retained after processing; only the extracted text data is saved.
Information collected automatically
- A login session cookie — lets the site recognize you as signed in between page loads. This is strictly necessary for the site to function; without it, you'd need to log in again on every single page.
- Your device's timezone — used to determine which day's puzzle is "today" for you specifically, so the site works correctly no matter where in the world you are.
- Basic analytics (via Google Analytics) — general usage patterns like which pages are visited and how often, to help us understand and improve the site. This uses its own cookies, governed by Google's privacy policy.
How your Wordle screenshots are processed
When you upload a screenshot, it's sent to Anthropic's Claude API to read the text and data visible in the image (your score, guesses, and similar). This is an automated, one-time process — the image is not stored by us or, to our knowledge, retained by Anthropic beyond what's needed to process that single request. Only the resulting extracted data (not the image itself) is saved to our database.
Who we share information with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers. We do use a small number of third-party services to actually run the site:
- Supabase — our database host, where your account and game data is stored.
- Render — hosts our backend server.
- Anthropic (Claude API) — processes uploaded screenshots as described above.
- Resend — delivers account-related emails (password resets, security notifications).
- Twilio — delivers optional SMS reminders, only if you've opted in to text notifications.
- Google Analytics — basic site usage analytics, as described above.
Each of these providers only receives the specific data needed for the function they perform, and each has their own privacy practices governing how they handle it.
What other members can see
Your screen name, your scores, streaks, and rankings are visible to other members through leaderboards, "Today's Players," and similar features — this is core to how the site works as a shared community. Your real name, email, phone number, age, gender, and location are never shown to other members and are only used internally.
If you join a Friend Group, the members of that specific group can see your daily results and guesses through that group's shared view.
Your rights and choices
- Access & correction: you can view and update most of your account information any time under Account → Personal information.
- Deletion: you can delete your account at any time from Account settings. This removes your personal profile information; some anonymized or aggregated statistics may be retained for the integrity of historical leaderboard data.
- Notifications: email and SMS reminders are opt-in and can be turned off any time under Account → Notifications.
Children's privacy
Wordle Analytics is not directed at children, and we require everyone to confirm they are at least 13 years old when creating an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
Passwords are stored using industry-standard one-way hashing (bcrypt) — we cannot see or recover your actual password, even internally. Account data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Wordle Analytics after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
